Cold Steel’s SRK Has Teflon Advantages
By
The Cold Steel AUS 8 SRK® is one slippery knife (literally). It has a Teflon® coating, which gives its six-inch blade advantages over most non-coated blades. Cold Steel says that the Teflon® acts as a lubricant when cutting, reduces glare and reflection from the blade, and protects the blade itself.
At 10.75 inches overall and weighing just over half a pound (8.2 ounces), this is one hefty survival knife. In this video, the reviewer says that the AUS 8 is standard issue for U.S. Navy Seals in basic underwater demolition training.
The blade has a full tang running into the entire length of the handle, which is a crucial feature. That tang is what connects the blade to the handle. A partial tang compromises strength and durability, but the AUS 8 overcomes this. The handle of the AUS 8 has a single quillon finger guard and a deeply checkered Kraton® grip.
“I would not hesitate to reach for this one,” says the reviewer, “camping, hunting or it things go bad.” I would have to agree, and only add that this thing would be pretty handy in a kitchen as well.
